What it doesn't do is remove risk: bets get voided,\n        odds move between the first leg and the second, and accounts get restricted. When one of those two things fails you are left with an open position, and\n        that's where the losses in arbitrage come from. You are not covering the other side, so any individual valuebet can lose.<\/p>\n      <p>Over a large number of bets the edge is supposed to show up; over a small number, variance dominates\n        and losing runs are normal, not a sign that something is broken. Each one moves its odds with its own model,\n        its own exposure and its own customers, so at any given second two of them can be far enough apart\n        for the combination to favour the bettor. Those windows are usually seconds long, which is the\n        whole reason this work is automated rather than done by hand.<\/p><\/div><\/details>\n\n    <details><summary>Is this legal in the UK?<\/summary><div class=\"a\">\n      <p>Yes. You are placing ordinary bets, with your own money, at licensed operators. What you are not\n        doing is anything the law prohibits.<\/p>\n      <p>Separate from the law: bookmakers are private businesses and their own terms let them restrict or\n        close an account whose betting pattern they don't want \u2014 including arbitrage. That is a commercial\n        decision, not an illegal one, and you should expect it to happen. Their rules on this differ from each other, which is exactly what\n          creates the gap.<\/li>\n        <li><b>Restrictions.<\/b> Sooner or later a bookmaker limits your stakes, and that account stops\n          being useful.<\/li>\n        <li><b>Not enough balance spread across accounts.<\/b> The most common reason a trial shows nothing:\n          the software can't act on what it finds.<\/li>\n      <\/ul>\n      <p>These are infrequent per bet and inevitable across hundreds of them. What now?<\/summary><div class=\"a\">\n      <p>Nothing dramatic: send the bookmaker whatever verification documents they ask for, withdraw your\n        balance, and move that capital to another bookmaker BetOven works with. The operation is spread\n        across accounts precisely so that losing one doesn't stop it.<\/p>\n      <p>What not to do is open a second account in someone else's name.
